Cesar Barroso

I am originally from Brazil but I lived in the United States for about 20 years. My art has roots in the art of Karl Blossfeldt, Imogen Cunningham and Edward Weston, who one hundred years ago took seeds, flowers, plants and roots as their models. Instead of the “realism” of color, black and white photography favors spectacular, evocative, enigmatic and disturbing images. It clearly has qualities which are very compelling. The shapes, lines and textures created by light on the botanicals is what I aim to capture, since I began to photograph in Brazil.
